Key Points:
A duelist who grew up looking at brilliantly cut gemstones all her life, Masumi declares herself to be one who can tell immediately how lustrous someone is. Yet her thoughts on the matter do not lie in beauty when it comes to the non-mineral; rather in their actual spirit. Masumi seems to greatly value a person with focus, and strength. One who can turn all their efforts onto what matters, throwing themselves into a duel with all their heart and strength. We can see this in the last duel she participated in during the series, as well as her first--both of which were against 'Yuzu'.
In the first, Yuzu's distractions would grant Masumi her win; and Masumi, who carried an expression of superiority through the duel, would continuously berate her opponent for it--'Your eyes have no luster', she would say. 'To be decieved by the reflection in the crystal--your eyes must be truly clouded'. Her observations are not based in malice either, as can be seen in her similar statements to friends; when Yaiba's announcement that he is 'strong, unlike (the others)' is met with Hokuto's irritation, Masumi replies that 'annoying as it is, he's not entirely wrong'--after all, Hokuto lost, did he not? That she delivers each of these lines with that same confident smirk speaks greatly of her self confidence, both in her ability and in her very words. She has good reason to be confident in this as well; Masumi is a skilled strategist when it comes to dueling, and her position as the top of the Fusion class at LDS serves to further cement this. Only an impressively powerful student could attain this honor, and even Sora--a duelist from the Fusion Dimension who bears self-proclaimed superiority in that field--notes that Masumi's strength is real (though he additionally notes that she's 'not a threat').
Bluntly factual as Masumi can be however, that hardly makes up most of who she is. As seen in her exchange with the Headmistress, this bluntness is more of an act of 'properness', or from a view of what is proper. From the way she carries her disk at her side, to her curt 'Yes, Headmistress', it is clear that she takes dueling as seriously as a dedicated soldier does their rank. She displays a This is further noted in her dedication to determining the truth of what occurred to her teacher, 'Marco', as well as to the orders of LDS itself.
Masumi's first display of concern is seen in regard to this 'Marco', with her typically collected smile banished and replaced by openly distraught worry once she and others are made aware that 'something' has happened to him. When it comes to those she cares for, she appears to care for them openly and unapologetically, defending their honor and their name with her every word. She will pursue this justice with relentless rage and force--whether with or without the support of others, chasing after whatever leads exist with the same intelligence seen in duels until she can ascertain the truth and more importantly the culprit for herself. ('Man, she really is stubborn...' 'Don't let her catch you saying that, or she'll send you flying.')
That is not to say she is completely unflinching in the face of danger--the very sight of the damage wrought by what attacked Marco and others sends obvious fear and distress through her being. Masumi seems to easily convert this fear into further fuel for her hunt however; her efforts may be ruled by emotion, but it is clear that she knows how to direct it; upon discovering the seeming culprit of acts against her teacher and school, she does not attempt to face them alone, instead contacting as many others from LDS--her superiors and allies in other words. All the same, both her emotions and her known ability as a duelist have the negative side effect of clear overconfidence. This is seen to an extent in both her second match with Yuzu, as well as, more importantly, the three on one fight she and her friends had against Kurosaki Shun. Such overconfidence would lead to a shocking loss--showing that for all she claims to see in her opponents, she is easily mislead when it comes to gauging her own ability next to it.
All the same, in a 'proper duel', she is still able to admit defeat, however awkwardly. While she no longer even recalls the duel with Shun thanks to the memory alterations from LDS--(a loss she would likely view with shame if anything, given that it was a match fought specifically for the sake of LDS's personell)--she responded to her loss against Yuzu by insisting that her opponent continue on through the tournament at full strength, declaring that she would not stand it if someone who defeated her did not win the tournament.
To clip things together, Masumi is one with a soldier's heart, and a great sense of honor toward her fights. She makes bluntly factual observations that are surrounded by smug pride (and, while lacking malice, are very likely intended to at least sting), but nonetheless holds a great deal of respect for those in positions above her. All the same, this respect does not stop her from acting on her own ideals of justice when it comes to her friends, though she at least recognizes where others must again be pulled in for aid.
She feels very strongly for those she cares about, and will ruthlessly defend and fight for them with a growing rage--and will similarly defend her own honor and abilitiy. This overconfidence however can blind her just as much as guide her, and has led to her loss more than once.
Masumi overall, is the gem of the jeweler's eye--strong, beautiful and confident, and fully aware of it...A Lancer in training, absolutely looking forward to displaying her strength for 'what is right'.
Gem Considerations: Idocrase -- Considered a stone of 'courage' (which Masumi seems to have an abundance of to be honest), this stone is also connected to mental peace and clarity. Considering that Masumi's very memories have been manipulated to give her mental peace according to the plans of others in her world, I thought it would be an interesting thing; rather than bringing mere peace, it could push her to in fact question the pieces of her memory that no longer quite fit.
It also happens to be a gemstone that isn't a monster in her deck, so.
Idocrase comes in a variety of hues; Masumi's is a sort of limey, yellow-green, cut in a marquise carbochon, and it sits nestled above the collar bone on her throat.

List Three Powers You Would Like Your Character To Have:
Masumi is a pretty blunt person, and her words can hurt a lot--while being based on precision fact. That in mind the chain whip--which hurts like heck but also carries a certain grace and beauty to it--is a pretty nice fit for her, particularly since chances are her first ability is going to be smacking things on the head ANYWAY.
Holo-projection is an interesting one, and one that perhaps could tie into her gauge ability. Mostly it stems from her gem's ties to mental peace and clarity; this form of projection would allow her to display from the gem anything she's ever seen or thought, giving a way to organize information as well as cleanly put it together for others to look over. When it comes to memories that have been tampered with in her case, this could cause something of an 'error' however... ...overall this ability can't extend into something like Pearl's 'Holo-Pearl', but it COULD potentially be used in tandem with the character gauge to 'scan' information.
Lastly her character gauging is one she seems to partially draw from already; her statement that Yuzu's eyes held no luster are true in both cases--she is referring to Yuzu's preoccupation with other matters. Similarly, she is generally able to take a single look at a person and judge their character and skill; this could extend into a scholar-class type ability to look at a monster's gem and be able to intuitively determine weakness or power.

Key Points:
- So Masumi's the daughter of a Jeweler, and attends LDS' Fusion course. She duels with Gem-Knight fusion monsters WOW MASUMI
- She's brought in to fight against You-Show for their school, representing the best of the Fusion course. She beats Yuzu easy, telling the girl she 'has no luster' whoopwhoop (HARSH).
- LDS pulls out in the end bc Masumi's teacher Marco got turned into a card; she's not happy just sitting around so she ofc goes to try visiting the scene of the crime.
- The search led her to a warehouse where Yuzu, Sora, and 'Yuuto' were--since the latter was supposedly the culprit, she challenged him to a duel only for the guy to disappear.
- Masumi was convinced that the guy just ran off though, so she continued looking--eventually she tracks down Yuzu again and demands a duel (it kinda looks like they're in cahoots after all). Instead, Shun--AKA Actual culprit--shows up.
- Shun escapes thanks to weird bracelet magic while Masumi's trying to call for backup again, so in the end she agrees to act as bait for the guy alongside her friends Yaiba and Hokuto.
- They totally thought they had him AND THEN GOT CREAMED. So that didn't go very well..
- yLDS alters the trio's memories to view Shun (now a grudging LDS ally) as a 'friend' since the CEO made a deal with him, so she doesn't remember what happened. Even though their 'friend' just sort of glares and ignores them GOOD JOB.
- The Maiami Championship started, and Masumi fights Yuzu first. She's kinda confused when Yuzu's all 'but shun was your enemy??' but hey whatever. Yuzu manages to prove Masumi's 'YOU LACK LUSTER' wrong and beats her--even saves her from falling to a presumably nasty injury.
- After the duel she gives Yuzu the card 'Crystal Rose' and just watches the rest of the duels that progress, later wondering 'hey where'd Hokuto go' (oh hun).
- Of course, after the third round revealed dimensional invasions and training for secondary lancer teams to combat what likely caused Hokuto to vanish, that was kinda... ...Well she's thinking about joining at least.
